DeKalb Community Service Board (DeKalb CSB) is recruiting for a Medical Director for our DeKalb
Regional Crisis Center. The incumbent provides clinical oversight as well as psychiatric medical service
in a residential crisis setting as part of a behavioral health team serving individuals with mental illness
and/or a substance use disorder. Provides psychiatric and medical direction for all services provided at
the program site. Evaluates and diagnoses; prescribes medication as needed, performs psychiatric
assessments, and follows up on treatment to ensure appropriate resolution of the crisis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. As program medical director, provides psychiatric and medical direction for all services provided at
the program site.
2. Provides direct psychiatric care for clients ages 18 and above; this includes psychiatric evaluations,
psychiatric treatment including therapy and medication, and withdrawal management.
3. Assumes psychiatric leadership responsibilities to the Treatment Team, including reviewing and
evaluating treatment plans, providing medical information in treatment plan development.
4. Provides clinical expertise and direction for treatment.
5. Provides clinical supervision for program medical staff.
6. Provide weekly supervision and clinical oversight to clinicians
7. May act as delegated physician of record for specific clinical nurse specialist(s).

Minimum Education, Credentials, and Experience: A graduate from an accredited medical school.
Board eligible or board certified (preferred) in psychiatry, serving a residency in general psychiatry with
license to practice medicine in Georgia or license eligibility in Georgia.
Working Conditions: Works indoors in a residential crisis setting. May be required to physically assist
clients, may need to carry objects up to 10 pounds. On-call after-hours availability may be necessary in a
residential setting.
Needed Attributes: High ethical standards demonstrated in all aspects of medical practice. Able to lead
clinical and medical teams that promote learning, excellence and optimal outcomes for clients. Critical
thinking, exemplary interpersonal skills, and a consistent, contributing demeanor is required.

Licensed Clinician 


As an important member of our multi-disciplinary team, provides assessments, individual and group counseling, family counseling, and other treatment modalities within an evidence-based framework. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment in assessment, application of diagnostic criteria, clinical formulations, and sound triage decisions. Actively contributes to the treatment center and organization through on-going collaborative efforts.



  1. Performs thorough bio-psychosocial assessment of the less complex to more complex clients and documents the assessment within agency guidelines

  2. Utilizes information from multiple sources as appropriate in the formulation of client driven treatment planning

  3. Assesses and documents response to interventions and modifies interventions as needed

  4. May utilize specific assessment tools regularly in evaluation of the client

  5. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment in assessment, application of diagnostic criteria, clinical formulations, and sound triage decisions

  6. Seeks clinical supervision as necessary


  1. Creates therapeutic relationship as appropriate with consumers and families/significant others

  2. Conducts individual, family, group counseling / therapy, and educational sessions using evidence based interventions

  3. Demonstrates clinical knowledge in mental health, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorder treatment

  4. Demonstrates documented clinical proficiency (through education, training or experience) in client engagement, interviewing and recording

  5. May utilize advanced certification in specialty in counseling the consumer and others


  1. Creates, communicates, and coordinates treatment plan of the more complex consumer

  2. Demonstrates expertise in care/planning through objectives, goals and specificity of plan

  3. Serves as resource to staff in demonstration of up-to-date knowledge of DeKalb CSB, community, regional, and state resources

  4. Assist treatment team in problem solving regarding needed resources for complex consumers

  5. Insures timely communication with providers through proper exchange of written and verbal communication per policy and procedure. 

  6. Document referrals, discharges, resources or other issues for problem resolution and/or utilization as required in agency policy

  7. May serve as a liaison in community resource activities


  1. Maintain licensure / certification

  2. Actively participates in clinical supervision

  3. Actively engages in behavioral health educational initiatives

  4. Seeks continuing education to meet current clinical needs



Current licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists is required. Demonstrates competency in using evidenced based treatments for mental illness and addiction. Applicant must be computer proficient and have the ability to multi-task. Applicant must demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and professionalism. 

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in outpatient setting with clients with severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance abusing clients. Experience working with Adults. Experience facilitating groups.


Able to communicate effectively with co-workers, internal and external customers and the public. Ability to interact and communicate with clients and their families effectively.



Works in an outpatient clinical setting 8:15am-5:00pm. Some evening hours depending on clinic need.  Telehealth currently available.
